Summer Berry Company - Blackout screening renovation
Ebtech Glasshouse Systems are proud to have successfully completed, in partnership with our Dutch colleagues Holland Scherming and Ludvig Svensson, the renovation of a blackout energy screening system at the Chichester site of leading strawberry producer, The Summer Berry Company.
The project involved the replacement of cloth, motors, and all associated components of the existing screening system. In total, the installation covered nine growing areas, spanning 38,534.40 m².
Working within the constraints of crop rotation and growing gutters presented a challenge. However, thanks to our specially designed framework system, which operates on the heating pipes, our installation team was able to span the 9.60 m wide bays efficiently and effectively.
As part of the upgrade, the existing screen motors were replaced with Ridder RW1200 units, while the screening material was upgraded to an energy-saving, blackout cloth from the Ludvig Svensson range.
Although the project posed several technical challenges, it was delivered to a high standard. The grower now benefits from a modern, efficient screening system that will provide both blackout and energy savings and improved growing conditions.
