PROJECT

James Hutton Institute - Shade Screening Renovations

Ebtech Glasshouse Systems recently completed a comprehensive shade screen refurbishment project for the prestigious James Hutton Institute in Dundee, covering a total area of 1,000 m². The renovation included the full replacement of all nylon top and bottom wires, steel drive wires, and sealing pelmets. In addition, new drive shaft bearings were installed, along with high-performance climate screening fabric.

For optimal performance, the team chose Svensson B.V.’s Harmony 6920 O FR — a flame-retardant screen that offers 69% direct shading and up to 20% energy savings, enhancing both climate control and sustainability.

The installation was carried out across 15 zones, each measuring either 9.6m x 8m or 9.6m x 4m, allowing for precise environmental regulation within the facility.

This comprehensive upgrade has significantly improved the glasshouse environment at the James Hutton Institute, supporting better crop conditions and enabling the continuation of their cutting-edge agricultural research.
